Official Parks Victoria: five tent platforms at each of Cope Hut and Dibbins Hut, bookings required. The failure in the title is treating that like a first-come lookout. It is not.
Book, shuffle, then walk
Use bookings.parks.vic.gov.au for Falls to Hotham platforms. VERIFY live tariffs (Parks Victoria 2026–27 camping schedule lists $19.60 peak per site up to 3 persons — not a price list). Car shuffle ~2.5 hours between Heathy Spur and Mt Loch.
Plan B if platforms are full: High Plains day walks from Falls Creek (Wallace’s Hut), or a different weekend. Do not sleep in Cope Hut because it is raining.
FAQ

Can I wild camp instead?
Dispersed camping is generally free across much of the park with standard rules (distances from water and huts, pack out). That is not the same as using the FHAC platforms. If you want the signed crossing camps, book them.
