The classic fail is a cotton T-shirt on Staircase Spur because Mount Beauty was 22°. The plateau is a different climate. Pack for wind, wet, and a slow descent.

Hazard class here is alpine: snow, ice, wind, fog, steep descents, 4WD seasonal roads. Not tides, not crocodiles. Total Fire Ban / Catastrophic days can close parks and ban solid-fuel fires.
Contextual gear searches live on the gear hub. One kit sentence on a trail page is enough — no Amazon wall on walks. Park fees never affiliated.

Do I need a PLB?
Not legally for a Wallace’s Hut stroll. For remote overnights and summits with poor coverage, a personal locator beacon or satellite messenger is a realistic planning note. We do not require a brand or invent carrier maps. Emergency+ when you have signal.
