Mount Bogong

Bright is a superb High Country town. It is the wrong default bed for Victoria’s highest summit. The failure is leaving Bright at 8am, crossing Tawonga Gap, and starting Staircase Spur already behind a 10-hour clock.
Match the trailhead to the town
Mountain Creek picnic area is a short drive from Mount Beauty. Parks Victoria’s Mount Beauty / Bogong High Plains cluster is this system. Bright sits in the Ovens, facing Harrietville and the Great Alpine Road.
If you already booked Bright, walk Bungalow Spur or drive to Hotham for the Razorback — or add a Mount Beauty night before Bogong. Do not cut the time you need for the way down.

Can I do Bogong from Bright if I leave at 4am?
You can drive. You still added a gap crossing before a steep alpine day. Mount Beauty is the operator’s choice. Save Bright for Feathertop.
