Dandongadale Falls
Guide updated · verify live track status with Parks Victoria
Parks Victoria: Victoria’s tallest waterfall, plunging 255 metres over a sheer cliff on the Mansfield–Whitfield side of the park. A different park from Bogong — do not assume High Plains logistics.
Do not pair: Do not try Mansfield waterfalls and Staircase Spur in one day from Melbourne.
Turnaround: If the access road is closed or rough beyond your vehicle, skip. The drop will wait.
- Assuming a sealed tourist road from Bright. This is a different gateway.
- Lookout / short walk (Mansfield–Whitfield side)
- 1–2 hours typical at the falls precinct
- Short lookout access (verify Parks Victoria site notes)
- Effort: easy
- Best for: West-side visitors who want Victoria’s tallest waterfall, not a summit
Distance, grade, time and open/closed status change — verify on Parks Victoria before you go.

Where you start
Dandongadale Falls precinct (Mansfield / Whitfield approaches)
West / King Valley side of Alpine National Park. This is not a Falls Creek walk. Paradise Falls is a separate nearby waterfall walk.
How to get there
- Mansfield or Whitfield approaches. Unsealed sections and seasonal closures possible — VERIFY.
- Last town fuel/food: Mansfield or Whitfield depending on direction.
How to do it (step by step)
- Drive to the signed falls access. Stay behind barriers — this is a cliff waterfall, not a swimming hole.
- Optional Paradise Falls on a different short walk if time allows and roads are open.
What to expect
On the Mansfield–Whitfield side, Parks Victoria highlights Dandongadale Falls (255 m) and Paradise Falls. This is waterfall-and-forest country on the western approaches — not snow-pole high plains.
Use it when you are already in the Mansfield / Whitfield / King Valley system. It is a poor “while we are in Bright” impulse.
Packing list (shell, grip, water) lives on the gear hub— not a shopping list on every walk. Pairing and Plan B: plan your visit · Razorback weather Plan B.

Extra tips
- Do not combine this with Bogong. Different corners of a huge park.
- Keep children back from the cliff edge.
